CO Validation for your Smoking Cessation Services
Low cost and visually motivational, the piCO+ signals a new generation of breath CO monitors. For the first time ever, this innovative new monitor allows users to switch between a setting for adult smokers or one for young people and pregnant women, as well as create their own custom settings with new
COdata+ software.
Motivational traffic light LEDs display smoking status, while the correspondingly lit liquid crystal display gives readings in single ppm and %COHb. The piCO+ is a low cost, lightweight, battery powered monitor that combines the features of the original piCO and piCO-lo models, used throughout the world by health professionals working in smoking cessation programs. Support for Young People and Pregnant Women
Young people’s smoking habits and motivations tend to differ from adults and their breath CO readings are typically lower. Using breath CO monitors as part of a young people’s cessation program can often be devalued due to these lower readings, which may reduce the impact of the visual display.
The piCO+ is unique in allowing the user to switch from an ‘Adult’ to an ‘Adolescent’ setting which addresses this problem. As with the original piCO-lo, smoking status interpretations and the corresponding colours are indicated at lower ppm readings.
The same setting can be applied to pregnant women, who may not necessarily smoke a smaller amount but are a traditionally problematic target group. By lowering the ppm cut-off points, hard to reach smokers can be encouraged of the dangers of smoking and more easily motivated.
Operation
Breath CO levels are easily measured by the patient blowing into the monitor through single-use disposable mouthpieces. These cardboard mouthpieces are connected to the piCO+ via a unique breath sampling D-piece, which incorporates a one-way valve and an infection control filter to address potential cross-contamination concerns. See Accessories and Service for more information. Single-switch operation makes the piCO+ incredibly easy to use.
Calibration
The piCO+ only requires a calibration check once every six months, which is easy to achieve with the Bedfont calibration kit.
No specialist technical knowledge or skills are required.
